Promoting Equality

At Jimmy Dunnachie Family Learning Centre, we actively promote equality in line with Glasgow City Council’s “Equal Opportunities” policy.

Policy Statement

“Glasgow City Council believes that every individual has the right to be treated with dignity and fairness. The Council therefore will not accept discrimination in any shape or form in breach of these principles and will do everything in its power to eradicate it”.

Anyone whether an employee, service user or customer of the council, who considers he/she has suffered or is suffering from unequal  treatment on any grounds, is encouraged to make a complaint and the Council guarantees that any such complaint will be dealt with “as a matter of priority”.

In Jimmy Dunnachie Family Centre we aim to:

  • Provide a high-quality service with an inclusive ethos that values and caters for the diverse abilities, needs and backgrounds of all the children and their families
  • Implement strategies that will help staff to encourage positive attitudes and respect for themselves and others
  • Provide opportunities for staff training and development in promoting equality and dealing with discrimination
  • Provide opportunities and experiences that will encourage children to develop positive attitudes and respect for themselves and others
  • Positively encourage children to treat one another in a fair and respectful manner
  • Provide opportunities for children and parents to participate in decision making and to have their views valued

Equal Opportunities within the Curriculum

An integral part of the curriculum involves us in celebrations from many different cultures and religions such as Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist. We also encourage the children to learn about the rich diversity of life, lifestyles, cultures and religions.

Through the curriculum we will promote equality by encouraging children to recognise similarities and respect differences in areas such as culture, religion, race, class, gender and ability. We encourage all children to treat one another with respect. Staff will respond to any discrimination in a fair and sensitive manner and with consideration for each child’s stage of development and ability.
